Germany: higher online slot stakes allowed at approved operators

In mid-July 2026 Germany’s gambling authority, the GGL, was reported to have opened a route for licensed operators to offer higher stakes on online slots. The statutory default remains €1 per spin, so nothing changes automatically for players.

What changes

  • The default stake limit stays at €1 per spin.
  • Operators can apply to the GGL for approval to offer €3 per spin to players aged 21 and over.
  • Operators can also apply to offer €5 per spin to players who showed no signs of problematic gambling in the previous 90 days.
  • Operators must monitor players both before and after any increase.
  • A full review of the Interstate Treaty on Gambling is expected by the end of 2026.

What it means for Gates of Olympus players in Germany

A stake limit sits above the game: it changes the maximum bet, not the RTP or the volatility. It does, however, change what the win caps are worth in practice. Every Gates of Olympus version states its maximum win as a multiple of the stake, so a 15,000× cap on a €1 stake and the same cap on a €5 stake are very different amounts.

Higher stakes will only be available at operators that obtained approval, and only to players who qualify, so check each operator’s terms rather than assuming a change. A higher stake also drains a budget faster in a high-volatility game. The same session budget lasts one fifth as many spins at €5 as it does at €1, which is why a limit set before you start matters more, not less.
